"Property
Lines - A Mercator Projection"
This painting, 15" x 90",
presents a view of the Colombia
River Valley near Radium B. C. and observes the
translation
of land into real estate. This scene
comprises a 370 degree
rotation around the compass which is
flattened and spread
out as a map of the globe would be, stitching together
the fragmentary experience of place and time.
An earlier series "Off on a Tangent" employs several degrees of
illusion in each work. As the clarity of the illusion melts
into painted marks, the poetry of the
subject-matter takes on changing . implications.
There are allusions to the passage of time and
memory in the slide between the
dissolving and resolving images.
